Review for AMOK!

Some people get offended when authors write book reviews, especially of books wherein they have stories. In a sense, it seems like cannibalism. Personally, I’d love to read other people’s opinions about this collection rather than deal with platitudes about how I should be acting. Take this with a grain of salt or trust it as the gospel, but this is the account of my five favorite stories from this collection, and mine was not one of them.

Truth be told, my deeper point of writing this review is to hopefully start discussions either here or on Goodreads, and maybe on Amazon.

I enjoyed this twisted anthology. It is quite dark and diabolical. I expected 26 tales of cold-blooded murder and psychotic rampage, but didn’t expect to find the huge diversity of vision and the balanced array of talent. Reading the author profiles in the back pages revealed a host of experienced authors with several publications under their belts.

This book is so much more than just expertly written tales of murder. There are ‘braindead zombies’ and there are sex-crazed zombies. You’ll also find military robots and time machines, demon possessions and angry ghosts, wandering barbarians and panicked wizards, astral travelers, drug addicts, and you will even experience being poisoned once. Way out from left field come sentient centipedes, genetically-modified pigs, and natural disasters. AMOK!!—the name fits it all.

Picking five favorite stories out of this collection was insanely difficult. My favorites won’t be yours, so read this book and tell the world which ones you liked best—this collection is worth reading. Seriously, there are so many great stories in here. These were my five favorites.

So Far, A Very Happy New Year

Here is the list of up-coming events—

February 7th 2015— I will be at AFK Elixirs & Eatery (and game hall) in Renton, Washington, with eight Northwest area authors. We will be there from 2 PM until 9 PM. Have a drink with me and let’s talk about your favorite books, old movies, or video games—my areas of expertise.

 Hoodoo

Sometime between now and April Fool’s Day, I’ll have zom-poc author Peter Welmerink over for tea and seven deadly questions. In the time frame before Fool’s Day, I’ll have a review up for AMOK! and hopefully one for That Hoodoo, Voodoo, That You Do. (Also, I’m going to soon change my “Reviews section” to simply the “New Books I Like section.”  I’m not willing to cut down anyone’s hard work, and historically, I only share books I like with you.) I will also show off the book cover for Book III; Hounds of the Hunted.

After the Fool’s Day, I’ll be at Norwescon 2015 on April 2-5th in Seattle Washington. I’ll be at the NIWA booth in the dealer’s room mostly, and at several parties to mingle.

I’ll be going to the World Sci-Fi convention in Spokane Washington from August 19-23rd. I’ll be looking to cause trouble with several cool authors. Pictures to follow.

Keeping it Simple

There is a fair bit going on, so I’m going to approach this post in a simplistic fashion.

The revised version of The Wrong Way Down is near completion. I have seen the proof paperback copy and there are some minor adjustments to be made. I’m expecting a December 1st release.

Here is an interview with me and Pamela Cowan, who I collaborated with for the lead short story, Best Friends, written for the Northwest Independent Writers’ Association’s fourth anthology titled Underground. Here is the link

here is a link to Amazon for more information about Underground.

AMOK! is out and available at Amazon. It is a collection of short stories about madness and rampages. I’ve only had time to read the first story, and it was fun. I anticipate the rest of the book will follow though at about the same pace. I’ll review it here when I’m finished. Here is a link to Amazon for AMOK!

I also received a copy of Timothy Baker’s latest, Monster Ink. I’m hoping to review it before Christmas, but it might be in the new year before I have time.
